NODA News Show Reviews 1997

Welcome to this recently formed and affiliated society and it was a pleasure to attend the first night performance of their debut production at the Howardian Centre, Cardiff in October. As a youth theatre company it was a brave and ambitious choice to stage Peter Pan just seven months after formation.

In the title role, Sarah Lark proved a king-pin for the show with her assurance and drive and was well-partnered by an attractive and confined Wendy played by Laura Harries. In the dual role of Mr Darling and Captain Hook, fifteen-year-old Ian Virgo performed with maturity and ability beyond his years and acquitted himself well in both characters.

In the many supporting roles there were, of course, a number performances to charm and amuse but the overall effect was the enjoyment and enthusiasm of all the performers which was infectious and gave us all a happy night. Credit to the excellent combo-band under the direction of performance MD, Greg Arrowsmith. A good, well-controlled sound with bags of foot-tapping drive. Congratulations to all the production team involved in this venture.

It really was a good beginning and I predict that building on from this success the society will not be ‘unknown’ for very long.
